My child needs ABA....where do I start?

1) Autism Diagnosis

You will first need to make sure your child has been given an official diagnosis by a psychologist or psychiatrist. Be sure to keep a copy of the diagnostic report for your record.

Referral for ABA

Following the diagnosis, make an appointment with your child's primary care doctor. Tell him/her you need a referral for ABA services with BLISS ABA. Insurance should approve the request within 3 business days and fax us the referral. Please follow up with us using the contact us link if you have not been contacted within 2 business days of the referral approval.

Evaluation

You will be contacted to initiate the intake appointment. This consists of an in-person visit to observe the child as well as  completing approximately 4 questionnaire assessments. This appointment takes about 1 hour. The BCBA will discuss your concerns and goals which will be used to construct a list of decided upon goals. The goals will reflect language, social, repetitive (stimming)/sensory behaviors as well as problem behaviors. It takes about 2-5 days for the BCBA to complete this report.

Treatment Plan and Approval

The BCBA (behavior analyst) will score the assessments and summarize the evaluation findings into a report. The report will consist of those results and a list of goals which will be the basis of treatment in ABA sessions. A parent will sign this report prior to sending to insurance for approval. Approval times vary, but usually take 2-4 weeks. Sessions can begin immediately following approval (BCBA will contact you).  Sessions occur in the clinic and take about 3 hours typically. Recommended days/hours will vary based on individual needs following evaluation. Parent does not need to be present or remain on site during therapy. In fact, to ensure privacy of other patients and quality services we ask parents to remain outside of the main therapy room.
